What is Glycine?
Glycine is a naturally occurring amino acid and one of the most abundant amino acids found in collagen. It is also present in smaller amounts in other dietary protein sources.
In addition to its nutritional role, glycine has a naturally sweet taste, making it versatile for use in foods and beverages. It can be added to hot drinks, desserts, and baked goods, as it is heat-stable and does not have a strong aftertaste. Its sweetness is comparable to that of regular granulated sugar.
Why Supplement with Glycine?
Glycine is particularly abundant in collagen and collagen-rich foods such as bone broth, gelatin, and certain connective-tissue foods. Modern diets may contain fewer of these traditional collagen-rich foods than in the past, which has led to interest in glycine supplementation.
Supplemental glycine can help increase dietary glycine intake and may support the body's normal physiological functions.
Consumption Recommendation
1 serving = 1 heaped teaspoon
•⁠  ⁠Before bedtime, dissolve 1 heaped teaspoon of glycine in 1–2 dl of lukewarm liquid, such as water, and sip slowly.
•⁠  ⁠Alternatively, it can be taken without water.
•⁠  ⁠A smaller amount, such as 1 teaspoon or 1 mocha spoon, may also be taken after meals, particularly when the meal contains little or no collagen-rich protein.
•⁠  ⁠Glycine can be mixed into coffee, other beverages, or foods and can also be incorporated into baked goods.
Glycine has a naturally sweet taste without added flavouring. When consumed directly as a powder, however, its sweetness can be quite intense.
